What is Functional Testing?
Functional testing allows me as your healthcare practitioner a look at how your body is working - or not working.

At Patricia Skolnik Nutrition LLC, we currently offer two functional testing options; GI MAP stool testing, and DUTCH hormone testing.

GI-MAP stool test
Diagnostic Solutions Labaratory
The GI-MAP (microbial assay plus) detects the DNA of organisms in our GI by using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology.
What organisms? Things like parasites, viruses, bacteria (the good guys *and* the bad guys), and fungi, among others.

It also gives a look at your liver and pancreatic function, and inflammation in the GI.

This helps us *know* the reasons for your gut symptoms, like heartburn, bloating, urgency, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or excess gas. As a result we can take a very targeted and individualized approach using antimicrobials, herbals, vitamins and possibly probiotic supplements to resolving your uncomfortable digestive symptoms.

Yes, you'll have to poop in a box. But it's worth it.

DUTCH hormone test
Precision Analytical
The DUTCH Complete (dried urine test for comprehensive hormones) measures sex and adrenal hormones, their metabolites, and a handful of organic acids to identify nutritional deficiencies and hormone and GI imbalances among others.

The DUTCH Plus test also measures the cortisol awakening response (CAR), which is great for assessing burnout and stress response.

This helps us understand the reasons for your hormone-related symptoms like mood swings, hair loss, PMS symptoms, fatigue and weight gain. Then we can take a very targeted and individualized approach using nutritional and herbal supplements to resolving your hormone-based symptoms.

You'll have to pee on some cardboard (and set it out to dry) and pop some cotton in your mouth - both several times over the course of 24 hours. Worth it!

This testing is beneficial for *everybody*, not just people who menstruate.
